Adventures Through Sound: Book Redesigns
Print Design | Adobe Illustrator & Adobe InDesign
Adventures Through Sound is a series of music education workbooks developed by the faculty of Orpheus Academy of Music, a well-renowned, private music school located in Austin, TX. The books utilize a unique method of teaching young musicians about topics of music theory, based on the Kodaly method of musical instruction. The workbooks were previously developed for piano and guitar, but the school was in need of a book for violin as their business expanded. I was responsible for creating a new layout for the original curriculum. As the purpose of the books is primarily to assist students and parents at home, it was important for the design to be appealing to children while still being clear and intuitive for adults.
The creative process primarily included a) developing a clean, professional template for current and future books, and b) creating and sourcing new graphics in line with existing brand guidelines. The redesign utilized a rainbow color scheme matching existing rewards of the school's Musical Journey program. I also integrated new content developed specifically for violin players, while allowing for content for individual instruments.

M:Studio
User Interface Design | Adobe Illustrator
M:Studio is a web-based musical education tool developed for a private, UK-based music school called M:Tech. As the school’s student body is made up of mainly children of primary schoolage, the application required an interface that was both simple to understand and appealing to a young audience. As such, I incorporated fun, vibrant colors while maintaining a clean aesthetic for the interface.
The redesign process included reworking the layout of the application within the bounds of its back-end structure. I also created new assets for the musical notation and instruments. The application was designed to be usable on both PC and tablet screens; as such, one of the biggest challenges of the project was to comfortably place the many different components inside a limited screen space.

Belief & The Book
Web Design & Typography | HTML and CSS
As part of a graphic design course, I was tasked with designing a website featuring a series of essays on typography presented as a collection. Prior to the web project, I had designed a print version of the essay collection; the layout and color palette of the web version were derived from this initial project.
The website used the same layout for all five essays, with a different color assigned to each author’s individual page. The typeface for each page’s heading and body text was selected based on the essay’s content and author, taking into account the font's readability for screens versus print design. In addition, I chose examples of typography from a wide variety of sources to accompany each essay. The site was built from scratch in a text editor using HTML and styled with CSS.
